Sub Rosa

Emptiness

Thoughts drift across your high white plains

My private desert ice cream beach

Extending far beyond my reach

You float there in your silent ether

Mundane yet wondrous to waking eyes

Mind caressed by simple curves

And stillness that surpasses time

Kissed by dappled morning gleam

But unmoved by

Floating whispers in the window breeze

The sounds of a daydream town that

Splash pale colours on that smoothest canvas

Washing in and out of focus

Your cool repose serenely hides

The toil of those that went before

They brought these gifts then went away

To leave alone in sparse Arcadia, my

Inverse universe

Suspended in divine inertia

Contemplating your remote perfection

So close to heights I cannot touch

Where isolation is all

To wish in vain the day won’t break

This fragile state

A secret, foolish slice of heaven

Just you and I

Sub Rosa

Flower of the whitewashed sky
